Ways to Feel Lighter By The End of Today

Slimming down takes time and dedication, but a few quick tricks can help you feel a little bit lighter in just one day. Read on to feel less bloated and puffy—and get a flatter belly—by the end of today!

In The Morning...
Drink Hot Water and Lemon
A mug of hot lemon water in the morning wakes up your digestive system and helps get things moving. You can drink green tea with lemon if you don't like the taste of warm lemon water on its own.
Go Dairy-Free
Many people experience belly discomfort and bloating after eating dairy. If you can relate, avoid cream and yogurt at breakfast. These dairy-free breakfast recipe ideas will help you nix the yogurt, cheese, and milk to help you feel better (and slimmer).
Detox With Yoga
Yoga twists can support digestion to help rid your body of toxins. This yoga detox sequence includes plenty of twists and stretches to help you wake up and feel your best.
Have a Tropical Snack
Both pineapple and papaya contain enzymes—bromelain and papain, respectively—that help banish bloat by breaking down protein and easing digestion. Snack on a bowl of cut-up fruit, or make this papaya, pineapple, and coconut water smoothie for a midmorning snack.
All Day Long...
Slow Down
Eating too quickly can cause air to be trapped in your system, so chew slowly to minimize bloating.
Don't Chew Gum
It's a secret of de-bloating brides—stop the gum chewing to feel less puffy. And it's not only because chewing gum causes you to swallow more air; many gums contain sugar alcohol, which also can make you feel bloated.
Drink More Water
Good old H2O helps flush your system of toxins and extra salt, which can be responsible for that puffy feeling. Keep a water bottle with you at all times to remind yourself to drink more water throughout the day and ensure you're always filling up.

10 health and fitness tips for busy people

Health and exercise tips to combat your hectic schedule

Life races past at 100mph and staying healthy and keeping fit can be an uphill struggle when you’re busy. Here are 10 tips that will help you to find time so that you can keep in tip-top shape.

The list

A great way to focus your time on the things you value, such as staying healthy and fit, is to create a list of everything you’d like to do in your free time, such as watching your favourite TV series or running.
Once you’ve got your list, number each activity in terms of how much of a priority it is for you, starting at number one and working your way down. At the end of this task you’ll have a list of the activities you value. Try to always fit in at least one of your top three priorities per day, even if it’s just for 15 minutes.

Less can be more

You do not always have to exercise for an hour to reap the benefits and as soon as you understand this you will be able to exercise more regularly, even when you have a jam-packed day. For example, you can do four minutes of kettle bell exercises, four minutes of abs work and two minutes of squats and lunges.

Learn some super quick recipes

Slaving over a hot oven is no fun, especially when you’ve had an awful day and arrive home late into the night. To make sure that on these days you don’t reach for unhealthy convenience foods learn some super quick recipes you can knock up in an instant. A turkey steak with a feta and beetroot salad is a healthy meal that can be knocked up in less than 10 minutes, as can vegetable frittatas.

Use the loudspeaker or your mobile

If you tend to be on the phone a lot, think about ways you can get active during these long calls. Getting out of the office and going for a walk somewhere quiet can be a great way to get some exercise without losing any concentration whilst on the phone, or even pacing in your office whilst on the phone can help keep you active and healthy.

Optimum foods

When you’re busy your diet can suffer and vending machines, pizzas and takeaways can become too much of a regular occurrence. To make sure you’re getting the right nutrition make sure you always have a good stock of foods that deliver the maximum health benefits to hand. For example, tomatoes (good for your heart), spinach (good for your brain), blueberries (good for your cholesterol), salmon (good for weight loss) and pumpkin seeds (good for your memory) are hugely nutritious and will keep you full.

Pick a healthy hotel

A study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine found that people who travel away for work more than 20 times per month were 1.92 times more likely to be obese and 2.61 times more likely to feel like they had poor to fair health than those workers who only travelled for six times per month. If you travel away from home for work try to book hotels with gyms, healthy menu options and when you are there avoid comfort eating and instead reward yourself in other ways.

Workout with your kids

If you watch your little ones running about you quickly realise that they’re better than any personal trainer. Playing with your kids, whether it’s on the trampoline, dancing around your living room or playing a big game of tag together is a great way to workout without realising it. Plus this way you don’t feel guilty about not spending enough time with them.

Relax

When you are chasing a day full of meetings with a busy evening your stress levels are probably sky-high and stress has a terrible impact on your health and wellbeing. Therefore one of the best things you can do to stay healthy and fit is to learn how to relax. If you don’t have time to meditate or take a hot bath, studies have found that even the anticipation of laughter can help us to relax and reduce stress levels in the body. So, take a look at some funny Youtube videos to help you unwind.

Supersets

On those occasions when you manage to carve a space in your busy schedule to exercise, make sure you are getting the most out of your workout by doing supersets.  Super-setting can cut your exercise time by 50 per cent because instead of having rest periods between sets, you do an alternative exercise that rests the muscles you’ve just trained and exercises the opposite one, before you begin your next set. For example, once you’ve worked on your stomach, work out your lower back.

Live an active lifestyle

If you struggle to find the time to get to the gym or to get to your dance class then incorporating exercise into your lifestyle might help you to stay healthy and fit even when your schedule is maxed. For example, carry your shopping home rather than getting a cab, do some gardening with your partner on your date night, or go swimming with a friend instead of meeting for coffee.

Diets for Fast Weight Loss

Dansinger recommends eating a diet that minimizes starches, added sugars, and animal fat from meat and dairy foods. For rapid weight loss, he recommends focusing on fruits, veggies, egg whites, soy products, skinless poultry breasts, fish, shellfish, nonfat dairy foods, and 95% lean meat.
Here are more tips from Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD, author of The Flexitarian Diet :
  • Eat vegetables to help you feel full.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Get tempting foods out of your home.
  • Stay busy -- you don't want to eat just because you're bored.
  • Eat only from a plate, while seated at a table. No grazing in front of the 'fridge.
  • Don't skip meals.
Keeping a food journal -- writing down everything you eat -- can also help you stay on track.
"Even if you write it down on a napkin and end up throwing it away, the act of writing it down is about being accountable to yourself and is a very effective tool for weight loss," says Bonnie Taub Dix, MA, RD, author of Read It Before You Eat It .

WORKOUT IN OFFICE

The best way to maintain a healthy addition to your diet is to keep doing simple stretching or exercise. Shared the following simple tips that can be done in the office:

* Use the stairs and use fewer elevators when lunch or practice to walk to a nearby restaurant to your office.

* When sitting, use the arm strengthen technique where you just need to sit up straight in your chair and bring your hands to the front and then put the palm of your hand upward.

* Handheld enforced on the other hand use the site. Slowly lower your hands and make sure the position is not changed hands for strengthening the muscles of the arm. Do this several times and repeat the same steps on the other hand.

* You can also practice the technique of wrist movement, which is still in an upright position. Bring both hands under your chin. Bend your waist to the left, for three to four seconds. Straighten the body and back waist bend to the right hand.

* Meanwhile, back twist technique also requires you to sit upright and open up some space on your back at the waist. Place the right hand on the back of the left hip. Turn your hips to the left and keep that position until three to four seconds. Repeat the steps on the right.

Make Money Blogging

In this page I want to share some information for beginners on how to make money blogging. For a very quick and broad visual intro – check out this Make Money Blogging MindMap which visualizes just SOME of the ways bloggers make money blogging.
Firstly – lets get our expectations right. Not everyone who tries to make money blogging becomes rich. In fact those who do well from blogging are in the minority. I’m sorry if this disappoints you – but I’m not here to hype this up or make any promises. It is possible to make money blogging – but it takes time and a lot of hard work – and it doesn’t happen for everyone!
For a picture of how realistic it is check out my post – Can You Really Make Money Blogging: 7 Things I know about Making Money from Blogging.
Secondly – let me start by sharing my own top Money Making Methods but below that point you to some great resources and teaching on how to increase your income from blogging.
How I Make Money BloggingWhat follows is a quick summary of my main income streams from blogging. Before you read it though – keep in mind that every blog is unique in how it can make money. Some of the following income streams will work on some blogs a lot better than others – the key is to experiment with as many as possible and see what works best for you.
The following income streams (from a number of blogs) have helped me to earn a six figure income each year for the last 5 years from blogging. I’ve ranked them from highest to lowest.
I hope you find it useful to see the mix and variety of ways that I earn a living from blogging.

1. AdSense

Despite not using it here at ProBlogger any more (here’s why) I continue to use AdSense with amazing effect on my other blogs. I have them all set to show image and text based ads and find that 250×300 pixel ads work best (usually with a blended design). I don’t have much luck with their ‘referrals’ program but their normal ads work a treat and continue to be the biggest earner for me.

2. Affiliate Programs

miscellaneous affiliate programsI run a variety of affiliate programs on my blogs – most of which bring in smaller amounts of money that don’t really justify a category of their own (but which certainly add up).
These include recommending quality products like these here on ProBlogger: Thesis WordPress themeYaro’s Blog Mastermind Coaching Program and How to Launch the F*** out of your E-Book (and others) as well as some great products on my photography blog including 123 of Digital ImagingDavid DuChemin’s amazing Photography E-Books and Mitchell Kanashkevich’s great ebooks.
The great thing about many of these programs is that they are of such high quality that they sell themselves and I am being emailed from readers who sign up to them thanking me for the recommendation!

3. E-Book Sales

make-money-blogging-ebooks.jpgLast time I did a wrap up of how I make money blogging this category did not exist for me – I didn’t really have any of my own products to sell at all. However in the last year or so I’ve released 3 E-books – 31 Days to Build a Better BlogThe Essential Guide to Portrait Photography and Photo Nuts and Bolts: Know Your Camera and Take Better Photos. While these products all only sell for under $20 they certainly add up and some months this has been my biggest category of income. The reason they were only ranking at #3 in the last month was that I didn’t do a product launch (I wrote about one launch which brought in $72,000 in a week here). This is an income stream I see growing as I add more E-books to my range (expect 3 in the coming few months).

4. Continuity Programs

make-money-blogging-continuity.jpgThis is another newer category for me but one that continues to grow.
A continuity program is a site where you earn a recurring income from people who subscribe to a service you offer.
For me this includes two sites – ProBlogger.com and Third Tribe Marketing. Both programs are membership sites and generate monthly income from the thousands of members that they have as a part of them.

5. Private Ad Sales/Sponsorships

private-ad-salesPrivate ad sales directly to advertisers have fallen for me in the last year (they previously ranked #3 on this list). This is partly due to a change in my own focus but also partly due to the economy as it is. I should note that this area does vary a little from month to month depending upon the campaigns we’re asked to run – we’ve had a couple of months where it actually ranked #2 in the last year.
This includes ad sales of the 125 x 125 ads here at ProBlogger as well as a campaign or two at Digital Photography School

6. Chitika

ChitikaChitka continues to be a great performer for me on my blogs. They traditionally have worked best on product related blogs although their Premium ad units now convert well on a larger range of blogs.
While I’ve focused a little less on Chitika in the last 6 months (mainly as I’ve released my own products and moved a little away from advertising) they do continue to perform well where I use them and over the time I’ve been using Chitika they’ve now earned me over a quarter of a million dollars – as a result I can’t recommend them enough!

7. Amazon Associates

Amazon-Logo-1
Amazon’s affiliate program has been one of my big movers in the last 12 months. I used to make a few odd dollars from it – however in recent times it has become a significant earner for me (in fact it’s now earned me over $100,000 since I started using it). Christmas time (and the lead up to it) is a particularly good time for Amazon – last December it would have ranked #2 on this list.

8. ProBlogger Job Boards

make-money-blogging-job-boardThe job boards here at ProBlogger continue to grow each month in the number of advertisements that are being bought. This enabled me to invest most of the money that they’d earned a while back into getting a new back end for the boards and to redesign them. These job boards now bring in over $1000 a month in revenue which is pretty nice considering that they are so low maintenance to run. They also offer a service to readers and add value to the overall blog.
The only problem that I face with the job boards is that there are so many bloggers looking for work that the demand for jobs far exceeds the supply. On the good side of things is that advertisers are reporting getting amazing quality of applications.

9. Speaking Fees

I get asked to do a lot of speaking and increasingly they are paid opportunities. I’m not able to do as many as I would like (mainly because I live in Australia and most of what I’m asked to do is overseas and I only travel 2-3 times a year) – however in April I did a couple of events and the income was enough to include in this list.

Other Income

In addition to all of the above there are many smaller incomes. Many of these are from smaller advertising programs that I test but none are big enough to really rate a mention here.
The other income stream that there was no actual money from in April was book royalties from the ProBlogger Book. These are only paid every 6 or so months (not in April). It’s probably also worth mentioning that authors don’t tend to make a whole lot of money on book royalties – you don’t write books to get rich (unless you sell a lot of them).

Blogger earns RM 1 Million

So last sunday, the weekend pullout of Berita Harian called Berita Minggu ran a huge headline titled “Blogger untung RM1 juta” which loosely translates as “Blogger earns RM1 million” and featured a blogger (Mira Abu Bakar frm redmummy) with the caption “Blog saya pernah mencapai jumplah tertinggi kira-kira RM12,000 sebulan” (The highest my blog has gotten is RM12,000 a month).
The full article had quotes from Nicholas Chay, head of Nuffnang Malaysia, Blogger Aimie Harmelia from jejariruncing, gf of Malaysia’s football star – Khairul Fahmi Che Mat – and a Lecturer (Pensyarah Kanan?) from UM’s Media Studies department talking about (in general) how popular blogs can make money and how blogging is part of the Malaysian lifestyle.
Interesting thing to note that along with that article, was another one about how bloggers are also required to pay taxes to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) under the Income Tax Act (Akta Cukai Pendapatan) 1967, Section 7 where it states that income made online are also subject to taxes.
What I really disliked was how BH sensationalized the piece, giving the impression that a singular blogger made the RM1 million. There was no mention at all in the article(s) about how this number came about. Was it accumulative of all the bloggers? Or one blogger over the course of xx years?
Anyway, I know some people might not have Berita Harian so I have reproduced the article here. Please feel free to share (and link back if possible? :P) Thanks Kazwan for editing the pic for me! Click the image below for a bigger version

health and fitness

Do you ever feel like your day job is causing problems for your health and fitness goals? You are not alone. Office work does not have to be hazardous to your waistline, but you may need the right pointers to finesse common booby traps lurking in the break room and in your cubicle.
After all, work takes up a big portion of our daily lives so it is going to have a big impact on our mental and physical wellbeing. This list of suggestions will give you practical advice on how to cope from 9 to 5.
Manage stress: Medical experts are learning more and more about the damaging effects of psychological stress. It turns out that many of the ailments we experience from stomach pains to skin rashes can be traced back to stress and the inflammation that it causes. Much of that tension builds up at work due to personal conflicts or heavy workloads. Find relaxation practices that work for you like meditation or massage.
Eat healthy foods: Vending machine snacks and frequent servings of birthday cake can pack on pounds. Keep your own nutritious treats in your desk or the office refrigerator like carrot sticks, yogurt and unsweetened cereal. Ask for a smaller slice of cake.
Get moving: Browse online for exercises you can do in your office chair. Take the stairs whenever possible. Walk to your co-worker’s office to talk instead of sending them a text.
Reduce infections: Are you tired of catching colds that are going around the office? Washing your hands and keeping your hands off your face is the best defense.
Talk with your HR department: Review your employee manual for possible benefits like discounted gym memberships. Learn more about your corporate wellness program or ask your HR department if they would like to start one.
